Vision Statement

Our vision at Christian Montessori Academy is to provide a transformative educational experience where children are cherished as unique creations of God. We aim to foster a love for learning, cultivate spiritual growth, and nurture character development rooted in Christian values through the Montessori Method.

Portrait of a Graduate

The Portrait of a Graduate is a collaboration across Christian Montessori Academy, bringing together our educators, administration, and Board of Trustees to develop a shared vision of our aspirations for our students. Our hope is to articulate our vision of the skills that our students will need as they go out into the world to continue their educational journey after leaving CMA.
Christian Montessori Academy invites students to fulfill their potential by being curious and communicating and collaborating both ethically and empathetically. Through a developmentally appropriate approach, we foster and cultivate the following tenets:
  • Graduates are secure in self, as they are aware of their cosmic purpose and God given gifts.
  • Graduates are service minded, understanding that their knowledge of Christ implores them to be kind, respectful, and a peacemaker.
  • Graduates are responsible for themselves, their tasks, and their work, exuding leadership, self-control, and the ability to be vulnerable because they know mistakes are ok.
  • Graduates have a life-long love for learning, fostering their social, emotional, and academic needs equally.
  • Graduates sustain concentration because they understand how to initiate, how to manage time, and how to engage in respectful communication.

About CMA

Children attending CMA are not viewed as a group, but rather as individuals working toward understanding who God made them to be and what His intention for them in the world is. The world wants our education to be about knowledge. God wants it to be about wisdom. We believe that the impressions formed today have a lasting impact on a child’s attitude towards learning and life itself.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed and wrote in her book, The Child in the Church, that “the teacher must see the child through the eyes of Jesus.” Her choice to respect the child comes from God’s respect for the child. Walking with Jesus requires us to exercise this same respect. These are foundational concepts of a Christian Montessori education and by practicing and modeling respect, the child will learn to respect himself and his work which will lead to him respecting others and their unique gifts from God.

There are a few common misconceptions about Montessori education. One is that Montessori education is too structured and controlled. Another is that children are allowed to do whatever they want. The truth is that a Montessori education does embody the concept of freedom within limits. These limits are the basic ground rules of the classroom. For example, children are free to move about the classroom and choose their activities if they have been shown a presentation of the work and they use the materials respectfully. Children are free to work together or individually, but they must be invited to work with another child, and they must not interfere with another child’s work.

Children are respected, and treated with delicate hands, words, and actions. Scripture says, “Grace covers a multitude of hurts. What more glorious reassurance to our children that God loves them and extends His grace to them.” He extends it to them through our hands and our environments. Aesthetics are a large part of the graciousness of the Montessori environment. It is beautiful, inviting, and warm. It will take away fear that can prevent children from achieving their full potential.

The Montessori method of instruction has been in place for over 100 years and continues to produce individuals who are capable of making decisions, learning to their fullest potential, questioning the world around them, and striving to overcome life’s challenges.

Historical Perspective

Dr. Maria Montessori was a scientist and physician whose educational ideas grew out of decades of observing children’s behaviors. Dr. Montessori studied mathematics, engineering, science, the humanities, and then medicine at the University of Rome. She was one of the first women to graduate from the university, and then, the first to graduate from its medical school. Her choices and pursuit of education were very unusual for women in her day. Her life’s work reveals a courageous spirit and highly intelligent mind. Today, the Montessori approach to education includes guiding students through all subjects: mathematics, language, writing, reading, science, history, geography, sensorial experiences, and practical life skills. Also important, however, are the characteristics that are fostered by the Montessori educational approach: engagement, focus, organization, curiosity, courage, collaboration, respect, and resourcefulness.
