Job Title: Lead Lower Elementary Guide

Job Functions

  • Design and actively refine/maintain the Montessori classrooms “prepared environment” for the child to explore, creating materials and designing activities as necessary for the success of the classroom

  • Give sequential Montessori presentations that support the development of cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth according to the individual needs and progress of each child, and in accordance with the Montessori teaching method.

  • Uses the school curriculum, Montessori Albums, and current research-based instructional practices to develop cohesive units of instruction that meet both the group and individual needs of students.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.

  • Updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by schools’ policies.

  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and attractive Montessori environment.

  • Create and maintain a safe, joyful, positive atmosphere for the children.

  • Uses various assessment strategies such as observation, children’s work samples, stages of development, portfolios, etc. to help make instructional decisions for individual students.

  • Models and teaches conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies in the classroom.

  • Work collaboratively with a partner teacher

  • Give tours to prospective parents and interview prospective students.

  • Take care of classroom pets and plants as needed.

Parent Communication and Parent Education

  • Communicate proactively with parents on an informal basis, including emails and verbal conversations.

  • Establishes a positive relationship with the parents of the students and maintains regular communication with parents with regard to their child’s specific needs.

  • Establishes and maintains a Montessori classroom culture, paying particular attention to the needs of students/parents new to Montessori.

  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences (4-5 times per year)

  • Hold one-on-one meetings with parents as necessary to meet the needs of individual children.

  • Participate in Parent Education Events to educate parents and families about CMA and the Montessori Method

  • Prepare student Progress Reports 2 times per year.

Professional Development

  • Participate in periodic professional development opportunities. (both within the school community, attendance at conferences, and workshops)

  • Participates in on-going self-assessment and refinement of practice as well as collaborative professional growth.

  • Participate in observations with other teachers and staff (both as the observer and as the observed)

Academic Administration

  • Reports to the Head of School of Christian Montessori Academy

  • Engage in various administrative activities that support the school’s academic programs (e.g. planning for events, participating in staff meetings or one-on-one meetings, etc.)

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field

  • A Montessori diploma or interest in getting Montessori Certification from a MACTE-accredited teacher education program.

  • Experience and proven success in working with children 6-9 years old.

  • Desire and ability to partner effectively with parents in “following the child”

  • Palpable warmth of spirit and benevolence towards children, parents, and colleagues

  • Be creative, innovative, and excited to individualize classroom approach tailored to each student

  • Positive outlook, embracing challenges to find solutions together while identifying growth and learning opportunities along the way

Job Title: Extended Day Supervisor

Job Functions

  • Supports and upholds the Montessori philosophy and the mission of the school

  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of CMA

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters

  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other CMA employees

  • Monitors and assists individual students in groups to support program activities

  • Supervises students and maintains a consistent head count of all children present in the program each day

  • Complies with security procedures, including attendance, pick-up, and emergency procedures to ensure the children’s safety

  • Works in a team environment and encourages open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents, and co-workers

  • Ensures that all children are respectful of school property; ensures all school rules are followed

  • Prepares materials as needed for Extended Day activities

  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits

Important Job Functions

  • Maintains current and accurate records according to program policy

  • Collaborates with Administration to enhance the work environment and support program effectiveness

  • Assists in maintaining facilities used by the program including storage of equipment and cleanup of area

  • Maintains all supplies, equipment, and materials; informs the Office Assistant when supplies are needed

  • Follows directions and handles multiple tasks

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sufficient training to perform tasks assigned by school Administration

  • Experience working with children

Hours & Benefits

  • Part-Time;  $12/hour

  • Generally 2:30pm – 5:30pm (negotiable)

  • Monday-Friday

Job Title: Substitute Teacher(s)

Job Description

A Substitute Teacher will serve in an on-call capacity to step in and facilitate operations of the classroom in the event that the Lead Guide or Classroom Assistant is unable to be at work. The Substitute Teacher will work closely with the staff in carrying out the philosophy of Maria Montessori and the mission of CMA for children ages 3-13 years old. These individuals will be responsible for maintaining order and working with students to keep the schedule of activities as set by the Lead Guide.

Examples of daily duties include:

  • Helping in classroom/outside/Extended Day as needed

  • Keeping work periods orderly and quiet

  • Maintaining open communication with Lead Guide, Classroom Assistant, and school Administration

  • Quietly redirecting disruptive children or situations

  • Documenting and reporting all injuries

  • Relaying parent questions/concerns to the appropriate person
